With new information coming out about the races lately, my positions have definitely swapped places. As I'm not really interested in playing a plant, the Sylvari have gone from #1 to #5 for me, which is too bad as I was looking forward to my Sylvari Elementalist! They are the Guild Wars "Elves", but they're not, they're plants.
As I'm writing, it's Asura week right now, and in contrast to my feelings on the Sylvari, the Asura are coming out great! They were my #5, and are still just #4 above the Sylvari, but now I'm really going to enjoy visiting them even if I don't make one. They are the "Gnomes" of the GW world, and are the perfect combination of cute and snarky. Jared, there's a lot to be excited about! If I make one it will likely be a Rogue or Necro, though Asura Guardian sounds neat too.
The Norn have moved from #4 to #3. I like the Norn as a race, yet the only classes I can see for the Norn are Warrior and Ranger! Problem is, my Warrior's going to be a CHARR, and I'm not planning on making a Ranger - maybe someday, and it would likely be a Norn. Melissa's going to make one though, so I'll likely be spending a lot of time in Hoelbrak! Though GW2 has Dwarves, Norn take the place of playable "Dwarves" here, though their society is very different.
The Humans have moved from #3 to a strong #2. Divinity's Reach looks incredible, and the Humans are now my first choice for Elementalist and Guardian professions, two I will likely make (though now I'm thinking about making my Guardian Asuran), as well as Mesmer if released. All the other races lack the charisma and intrigue that the Humans possess for these roles.
The Charr are my new #1, as I will likely begin with a Charr Warrior. The Charr technology is awesome, and there are so many fun ways to roleplay a badass Charr axe-wielder. They're like "Orcs" but with intelligence. They can have as much of a "good" side as you want, but always have that sense of bloodlust to keep at bay.
My characters (in likely order of creation):
Charr Warrior, male
Human Elementalist, male
Asura Guardian, female
Human Mesmer, female
Norn Ranger, male
